This Neapolitan song was dedicated to the first funicular to the Vesuvius. But this funicular wasn't popular and incurred losses. His owners decided make a publicity: a song about the funicular to attract visitors. This song was "Funiculì, funiculà" that in a moment was heard in all city of Naples. The people came to funicular and it became make a profit.
This funicular to the Vesuvius existed about 25 years. At the beginning of XX century an eruption of Vesuvius happened and the lava destroyed the line of funicular. So this funicular doesn't exist more than 100 years but the song about it isn't forgotten.
Aissera, Nanninè, mme ne sagliette,
Tu saje addò? Tu saje addò?
Addò 'sto core 'ngrato cchiù dispiette
Farme nun pò, farme nun pò.
Addò lo ffuoco coce, ma si fuje,
Te lassa stà, te lassa stà.
E nun te corre appriesso e nun te struje
Sulo a guardà, sulo a guardà.
Jammo, jammo,
'Ncoppa jammo, jà!
Jammo, jammo,
'Ncoppa jammo, jà!
Funiculì, funiculà,
Funiculì, funiculà!
'Ncoppa jammo, jà,
Funiculì, funiculà!
Nèh, jammo! Da la terra a la montagna,
'No passo nc'è, 'no passo nc'è.
Se vede Francia, Proceta, la Spagna
E io veco a te, e io veco a te!
Tirate co li ffune, 'nditto 'nfatto,
'Ncielo se va, 'ncielo se va.
Se va comm'a lo viento e, a ll'intrasatto,
Guè, saglie sà, guè, saglie sà!
Jammo, jammo,
'Ncoppa jammo, jà!
Jammo, jammo,
'Ncoppa jammo, jà!
Funiculì, funiculà,
Funiculì, funiculà!
'Ncoppa jammo, jà,
Funiculì, funiculà!
Se n'è sagliuta, oje nè, se n'è sagliuta
La capa già, la capa già.
È ghiuta, po' è tornata, po' è venuta,
Sta sempe ccà, sta sempe ccà.
La capa vota, vota attuorno,
Attuorno a te, attuorno a te.
Lo core canta sempe 'no taluorno:
Sposammo, oje nè, sposammo, oje nè!
Jammo, jammo,
'Ncoppa jammo, jà!
Jammo, jammo,
'Ncoppa jammo, jà!
Funiculì, funiculà,
Funiculì, funiculà!
'Ncoppa jammo, jà,
Funiculì, funiculà!
Yesterday evening, Annie, I've climbed,
Do you know where? Do you know where?
To where your cruel heart any pain
Can't give to me, can't give to me.
To where the fire burns but if you run away
It lets you go, it lets you go.
It doesn't pursue you and doesn't burn you
Only looking at it, only looking at it.
Let's go, let's go,
Let's go, let's go up!
Let's go, let's go,
Let's go, let's go up!
Funicular, funicular,
Funicular, funicular!
Let's go, let's go up!
Funicular, funicular!
Well, let's go! From the earth to the mountain
There's only one step, there's only one step.
One can see France, Procida*, Spain,
But I see only you, I see only you!
Hold on to the ropes, in a moment
It goes up to the sky, it goes up to the sky.
It goes up like the wind and suddenly,
Oh, it's climbed, oh, it's climbed!
Let's go, let's go,
Let's go, let's go up!
Let's go, let's go,
Let's go, let's go up!
Funicular, funicular,
Funicular, funicular!
Let's go, let's go up!
Funicular, funicular!
It's climbed, oh, dear, it's climbed,
My head is spinning, my head is spinning!
It's gone, it's come back, then it's gone up,
It's always here, it's always here**!
Everything is turning around you,
Around you, around you.
My heart is shouting:
Let's marry, my dear, let's marry, my dear!
Let's go, let's go,
Let's go, let's go up!
Let's go, let's go,
Let's go, let's go up!
Funicular, funicular,
Funicular, funicular!
Let's go, let's go up!
Funicular, funicular!
